We provide innovative, high-quality engineering services for advanced materials and composites. We support an array of applications, including medical, and provide full-service design, prototyping, consulting, R&D, and contract manufacturing. We have over 40 years of experience engineering knits, wovens, non-wovens, films, foams, and flame-retardant materials. In addition, our high-performance, multilayered composites can be made with moisture, chemical, and biological barriers.

We are leading innovators in materials science, and apply our expertise in textiles, fibers, foams, films, coating, laminating, and surface treatments to develop custom engineered, high-performance flexible materials to help our partners solve hard problems. With a critical eye and product-innovating approach towards the verticals we serve, our mission is to deliver the most dynamic, all-around advanced materials solutions to exceed our customers’ standards. By putting our customers’ unique needs first, we have earned a reputation as a trusted advanced materials and textile manufacturer across the vast array of industries we serve.

Leading edge development projects such as carbon recapture, alternative fuel vehicles, high-spec military stealth technology, and fully recyclable automotive interiors all start with R&D ideas and materials development prototyping. Our consulting and development customers will use our materials to take their dream to the next level of feasibility.

Our extensive knowledge across the full spectrum of laminated solution technologies gives us the experience to diagnose and address the parameters surrounding the new product development process. Moreover, we can quickly design and build custom solutions and equipment to address unique needs using small-scale rapid prototype development in our testing labs and prototyping labs.

We have implemented carbon life cycle analysis modeling, are focusing a major portion of our development activity on carbon reduction, and have shifted our market focus to customers with a clear climate commitment.

We are now a leader in the introduction of 100% recycled and recyclable alternatives for automotive interiors including our vegan Neoluxe™ suede fabric. And we are working aggressively to reduce our own operational emissions footprint as well

Custom Materials Design

N/A We have engineered advanced materials for numerous applications including disposables, air and liquid containment, air and liquid filtration, stretch barriers, chemical and biological protection, molding, and MVT films. Our staff creates over 40 million yards of composite materials each year using various flame, hot melt, film, web, powder, and reactive thermoplastic processes.

Using our world-class supplier network, we source raw materials such as flexible, polymer film and foam, textiles, and non-wovens. Our facilities have the capacity to support virtually any production requirement, from prototyping to large runs. Backed by lean manufacturing methods, our processes are designed to utilize all raw material waste in order to reduce costs for the customer.

We understand evolving technology and design trends. We work closely with our customers to translate those insights into custom materials with the appearance, texture, and functionality that support our customer’s design vision. Whether it’s a moldable, recyclable vegan suede with the perfect texture and a custom surface embossing, or a breathable, autoclavable viral barrier with a sleek technical look, Shawmut brings complex design visions to life
